Design progress and practice. Type specimen for Space Mono, designed by Colophon Foundry.
Livebrief set by type designers Colophon Foundry. We were assigned the task of designing a specimen that celebrated one of their fonts. We were given full creative freedom in terms of format, technique and concept.
I chose the font Space Mono, a font with fixed character width. During my concept development, I focused on the actual characterization of such a font, and found that monospaced fonts are not categorized by style, but rather their construction. I therefore chose to design a book with visual references to architectural blueprints, and the content is inspired by the design of the characters.
